Clothes Swapping and Workshop Events

Swap your clothing with the thrifty community on our dedicated swapping days, at The Joinery, in partnership with the Adelaide Sustainability Centre!

Swapping your clothing is the antidote to fast-fashion as it promotes the reduction, reuse, and recycling of clothing. Large organizations often end up discarding most of their clothing donations into landfill, but at Sustainable Clothing Co, nothing goes to waste. At the end of our swaps, anything left over goes onto homelessness and women's shelters through the Anti-Poverty Network, along with anything else unsalvageable to Statewide Cleaning Cloths.

Attend fashion related workshops run by local artists and makers teaching upcycling, customizing and mending clothing, offering hands-on opportunities for young Australians to be involved in sustainability by learning to create, care for and dispose of clothing in a more environmentally friendly way.

Check out the Markets & Events page or the Facebook Events page for more information on any upcoming swap dates.

Recycle Unsalvageable Clothing or Fabric Scraps

You can recycle unwanted fabrics and clothing that is deemed unsalvageable at Sustainable Clothing Co, through our partnership with Statewide Cleaning Cloths, where the fabrics are recycled into industrial rags, insulation, pet bedding and more.

Simply pop into the store with your unsalvageable items and fabric scraps and place them in the rag bin provided.

By getting more than 30 wears out of your clothing items you are helping to make up for its environmental impact, and extending the garments life on average by 2.2 years.

    Sustainable Clothing Co. Lady-Boss Laura

Laura is the face behind Sustainable Clothing Co, launching the business in October 2018 with a special event evening featuring a screening of 'The True Cost', followed by a talk on the pros and cons of slow-fashion vs fast-fashion, a streetwear fashion show, a raffle prize draw and a break-dance performance.

Laura has been collecting and curating vintage and pre-loved clothing from other collectors, auctions, estate sales, markets and road trips since 2006. Inspired by everyday streetstyle, online fashion forums, her love for electronic dance music and festivals, and ground-breaking Japanese fashion trends at the time, Laura's wonderful and wacky personal collection grew so much that she first found herself reselling her pieces at the very first Round She Goes Market held in Adelaide, in 2012.

In-line with the motivation to live a healthier lifestyle, Laura began to take her clothing resale hobby in a sustainable direction, by focusing creating a brand that focuses on the importance of buying and wearing second-hand clothing, and diminishing the use of mass-produced, fast-fashion items full of harmful chemicals.

Laura has been involved in the Adelaide Fashion Festival, The Vegan Festival 2020 and 2021, Norwood Fashion Festival, Adelaide Fringe's Garden of Unearthly Delights. Laura has done talks and presented fashion shows for the for the SA Boutique Fashion show as part of South Australia’s Fashion week in 2016, Styled Market in September 2019, the Adelaide Uni's Fashion Collective Sustainability Night in early 2020 and Adelaide's Vegan Festival in October 2020. Laura has also done interviews with Broadsheet SA, Adelaide CityMag, Uni SA, The Adelaidian, BizCover’s International Woman’s Day Campaign, TEO Magazine, The Thirty Minute City at Radio Adelaide, Cocktail Revolution, on Renew Adelaide's success stories information panel and taught students about the importance of sustainability in fashion, building a sustainable business, how to sell clothing online and upcycling workshops at Adelaide CBD school, Youth INC.
